BROME'S COMPETITIVE SPIRIT:
A HISTORY THROUGH OBJECTS
March 18 - June 21, 2019
Since its foundation in 1855, Brome County has always been animated by a desire to measure itself against the best. This exhibition follows this history of competition through highlights from our extensive medal and trophy collection.
Many of the 35 assorted prizes selected for this exhibition – which are shown alongside historic photographs – have never been exhibited in the BCHS’s galleries before. Featured in the exhibition are prizes from a variety of competitions held both in Brome County and across the world between 1850 and 1950. In short, the objects brought together for this exhibition speak simultaneously to outstanding individual achievement and a much a larger narrative encapsulating local, provincial, and national history
"Brome County was founded in 1855 and the first Brome Fair was held the following year. Organising competitions is practically the first thing Brome County did."
- Jeremy Reeves, BCHS Curator
