For King, Country, and Constituents: George Harold Baker and the 5th CMR
Our special exhibit dedicated to Lt.-Col. George Harold Baker, MP for Brome County and Commanding Officer of the 5th Canadian Mounted Rifles, who was killed in action in June of 1916 at the Battle of Mount Sorrel, is now open. The exhibit will run from May 2 – July 10 2016 in the Centennial Building (130 Lakeside, Knowlton, QC).
This important exhibit features photographs and artifacts from the BCHS collections, as well as images from the Eastern Townships Resource Centre, and objects on loan from the Colby-Curtis Museum (Stanstead Historical Society) and several private collections. The exhibit is part of a larger commemorative project in Baker’s honour, made possible by generous contributions from the Pact Brome-Missisquoi, the Knowlton Lion’s Club, and individual donors. As part of the project, the BCHS will also be launching a special bilingual online exhibit later in May and hosting an event in June to unveil a new commemorative bronze plaque honouring Lt.-Col. Baker in the Martin Annex.
